Winter Warmers

I don't know about you, but I have been absolutely freezing lately (the last week not withstanding as it has been freakishly tropical and makes me think we all might perish sooner than expected via global warming related catastrophe).

Turning up the heat isn't really an option as oil = $$$, and we live in an old bungalow that is drafty beyond words despite our best weather-proofing efforts. So we get creative.

Aside from the usual blankets and hot water bottles, I love the occasional hot cocktail. And a Hot Toddy is at the very top of that list. There are a million recipes out there, and you really can't go wrong... But I'm sharing mine because it is my favorite combination of several that I've tried. From my freezing house to yours!

HOT TODDY (for 2)
* 2 cinnamon sticks
* 2 star anise pods
* 4 slices lemon
* 4 whole cloves
* 2 tsp brown sugar
* 1 tsp honey (divided)
* 3 oz Bourbon Whisky
* hot water

Find two mugs that make you feel all warm and cozy. In each mug place 1 cinnamon stick, 1 star anise pod, 2 slices of lemon and 2 cloves (stud two of the lemon slices with two whole cloves each), 1 tsp brown sugar, 1/2 tsp honey, 1.5 oz whisky, and as much hot water as you like (this entirely depends on how strong you like your drinks).

Stir, muddling the lemon, and ENJOY!
